sway in place: Fairlie Love songs

It is May 2020 and we have been - stay with me now - living in quarantine. As creative as we fancy ourselves to be, we just couldn’t imagine it or write it stranger than it really is. While the days since mid-March’s whiplash seem to move in slow motion and the phrase “uncertain times” seems to surrounds us, wherever we are, our hearts - even in their aching - are certain that our need for one another is our saving grace.

At Fairlie, we are grateful in this time that it is somehow our business to reflect on love and parties and lovely parties. We get to see the story of a love take shape in the details of a big day as it’s dreamt into life. In wedding planning, a whole new and shiny shade of intimacy appears as you wonder: What do you love together? How do you share it? What is on the menu of your biggest dinner party to date? And what is on the bar? How do you soundtrack The Party of Your Love? With this in mind, and because there is no salve better, here’s a baker’s dozen songs, from my love to yours.

I hope in this time we can all find some time to listen, bop around the house or find a slow dance in the kitchen, sing along or smile or sob (if you’re me, this is all known to happen within 5 seconds of “Don’t Worry Baby”). I hope we can all find some revel in our shelters, remember that love is a many splendored, often dizzying thing, and to let it be itself. There’s a track for all of that and more below. Enjoy the tunes and enjoy each other, Fairlie friends.
